One-to-one online English lessons or a course: which is right for you?
Group course, app or one-to-one online lessons: which is best if you want to speak? An honest comparison of the pros and cons.
When you want to improve your spoken English, you have a few options: language courses, apps and one-to-one lessons. They all have a place; what matters is choosing the one that fits your goal.
Group courses
Pros: A regular schedule, a classroom feel, meeting other learners.
Cons: Your speaking time in each lesson is limited, and the pace is set by the group. Shy learners often stay quiet in a crowd.
Apps
Pros: Anywhere, any time; good for learning words and building a habit.
Cons: They can't replace a real conversation. Tapping a screen is not the same as answering a person.
One-to-one online lessons
Pros: The whole lesson is yours, so it is always your turn to speak. Lessons are shaped around your level, goal and interests. No travel, no traffic: you join from home or work.
Cons: Finding the right teacher matters. How well you click with your teacher directly affects how much you get from each lesson.
If you want to speak
If your goal is speaking, the most important thing is how much you speak. One-to-one lessons maximise your speaking time. Apps can be a nice extra between lessons.
At Bean, you choose your teacher
Because finding the right teacher matters, at Bean you first have a 30-minute lesson with two different teachers, then choose the one you click with. This first step is 150 TL and is credited to your first invoice if you continue; if you're not happy, we refund you. Lessons are live and one-to-one on Google Meet, can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes, and you pay monthly only for the lessons you have completed.
